Fluorine-Free Water Repellency that Survives 30 Washes
Fluorocarbon-free water repellent for polyester, nylon, cotton and their blends.
Casdishield DFF is a fluorocarbon-free (PFC-free) textile water repellent formulated as a cationic polymer emulsion that bonds to the fiber during curing and forms a repellent barrier that withstands laundering: water doesn't wet the fabric, it beads up, rolls off and falls away. We proved it in our lab: the fabric keeps repelling water after 30 domestic washes.
International brands are removing fluorinated repellents from their supply chains: more and more restricted substances lists (RSL) include perfluorinated compounds. The problem is that most fluorine-free repellents work well on day one but lose their effect within the first few washes. With Casdishield DFF there is no trade-off: it meets PFC restrictions and keeps repelling wash after wash, applied by padding on the finishing line you already have.
Lab evidence
We treated the fabric, washed it 30 times and repeated the test: water still rolls off and the fabric stays dry. The trial was recorded on video in our applications laboratory.
| Test | Result |
|---|---|
| Repellency after 30 domestic washes | The fabric still repels the water jet and stays dry |
| Evaluation method | AATCC 22 spray test |
| Substrates evaluated | Polyester, nylon taffeta, nylon taslan and cotton |
| Trial record | Video available on request |
Application by padding
It is applied in the normal impregnation, drying and curing process, with no changes to the stenter process and no extra equipment. Adjust the bath to pH 5 to 7 with acetic acid before adding the product and keep turbulence to a minimum during preparation.
| Parameter | Recommended value |
|---|---|
| Dosage on polyester | 30 – 50 g/L |
| Dosage on cotton | 80 – 100 g/L |
| Wet pick-up | 50 – 70 % |
| Drying | 110 °C |
| Curing | 170 °C |
| Bath pH | 5 to 7 (acetic acid) |
The material must be fully pretreated and free of surfactant residues. For higher requirements, use a higher dosage. Ask our applications laboratory about the recommended crosslinker system for maximum durability.
Advantages in the mill
- Fluorine-free (PFC): meets the PFC restrictions of international brands' RSLs without changing your finishing process.
- Bath stability: forms fewer coagula than equivalent repellents, which means cleaner baths and more even finishes.
- Compatible with antistatics: can be combined with antistatic agents in the same bath without losing repellency; useful for linings, technical fabrics and workwear.
- One reference, several fibers: the same product works on polyester, nylon and cotton by adjusting the dosage; less inventory and fewer recipes to develop.
- Standard stenter conditions: drying at 110 °C and curing at 170 °C, the conditions of any heat-setting stenter; no additional equipment needed.

A fluorine-free repellent protects against water and aqueous soiling, not oils. Results depend on the substrate, dosage and process conditions. Compatible with cationic and nonionic products; with other products, preliminary compatibility tests are recommended.
